UTV Riding in the Summer - Riva Motorsports Miami

A clear, sunny day can seem like the perfect one to hit the UTV trail. It provides the beautiful backdrop for a scenic ride, but it does come with some issues. The summer brings with it intense heat. You'll need to take proactive steps to stay comfortable and healthy on your ride. We rounded up the top tips for UTV riding in the summer. If you are looking for UTVs for sale, visit Riva Motorsports Miami. We are a UTV dealer proudly serving those in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Attire

The essential UTV attire doesn't change when it gets hot out. You still need to protect your skin from things you encounter on the trail (such as kicked-up debris) and in the event of a crash. As a result, you still need full-length clothing.

But full-length clothing doesn't need to mean suffering from over-heating on the trail. Seek out breathable fabrics such as cotton and linen that'll keep you from getting too hot. You can often find great clothing at a UTV dealer, so start your search there.

Another crucial thing to wear is a helmet. Make sure it's crash tested and fits well. You can look at Motocross helmets. They are designed to offer superior protection during outdoor use. In other words, they won't be too hot and sweaty!

You'll also want a form of eye protection. Make sure your solution includes UV ray protection to protect your eyes. Many goggles guard against UV rays and they are more sturdy than sunglasses.

Dealing with the Sunlight

Your first line of defense against the heat is proper apparel. Your second line is how you ride. No need to spend the day sweating in the direct sun! Try to ride your UTV in the shade as much as possible. Seek out trails that have plenty of trees to keep you in the shade.

You can also be strategic about the time of day you ride your UTV. The mid-afternoon will be the hottest. Try riding in the morning and heading home in the afternoon. Or try waiting until the day cools down and heading out in the later afternoon.

Of course, sunlight isn't completely avoidable. Always layer up the sunscreen on any exposed skin. Opt for sweat-proof sunscreen. Otherwise, your sweat could slide the sunscreen right off. Re-apply throughout your ride as needed.

Stay Hydrated

You need to stay cool as you ride your UTV, but you also need to stay hydrated! When you become dehydrated, it hurts your ability to ride safely. It leads to brain fog, which reduces your focus. When you ride in the heat, you lose hydration even faster. Bring along plenty of water bottles (or better yet, a hands-free hydration pack).

Breaks

You should always take breaks when you ride your UTV, but it's even more important in the heat. The intense heat will wear down your focus, which makes it harder to ride safely. Take frequent breaks to give your body and brain a chance to recharge. Seek out a shaded, cool spot when you can. If you can dip your feet in some cold water, all the better. Be careful not to overexert yourself in the heat!
