Hearing Protection
Whether your motorcycle has a throaty roar or a whisper-quiet engine, every motorcycle rider needs hearing protection. Human hearing can start becoming damaged at about 70 decibels. Road noise alone can exceed that amount, and the sound of your engine plus wind whipping past your ears will contribute to hearing loss. Wear hearing protection. Get a helmet with hearing protection, or wear motorcycle earplugs to keep your eardrums safe.
Visibility Gear
For skilled motorcycle riders who know how to stay in control, the single most dangerous thing on the road is other drivers who don't see you and your ride. Motorcycles are smaller than normal cars, and some drivers don't register that you are in the space they want to be in.
Keep yourself safe by wearing visibility gear. Highly reflective strips are the best motorcycle accessories, whether you buy a reflective vest or apply reflective strips to your favorite riding jacket, boots, and bike. Be visible and safe.
Rain Gear
Florida may be balmy, but it is also rainy. Rain protection is definitely among your must-have motorcycle accessories. We advise a lightweight waterproof outer layer for wet sunny days. A full jacket and pant set is better than a poncho, and brightly visible rain gear can help you stay safe, as visibility is reduced for drivers in the rain.
Gloves
The best motorcycle accessory gloves keep your hands warm, dry, and dextrous on your bike while protecting your precious digits in the event of an accident. The right motorcycle gloves ensures that your hands are at their best when you need them most and are armored along the back. Try on gloves until you find a closely fitted yet flexible pair to give yourself the most control when you ride.
Boots
A pair (or two) of good boots should always be among your must-have motorcycle accessories. Riding boots should be waterproof, durable, and give you excellent grip while you ride. Thick soles let you drag to a stop in light traffic, and the right heel helps you keep your footing on the road. Be sure to break in each pair of boots and make sure they will be comfortable on longer rides.
Neck Protection
Those new to motorcycle riding may not realize how important neck protection can be. The wind will get into that critical space between your helmet and jacket, and this can quickly become uncomfortable to potentially damaging.
Consider several types of wind protection, including sleeve-mask, which is like the lower half of a balaclava - it will never whip around like a scarf and always perfectly covers your neck.
Microfiber Towels
As the guide says: Don't panic and always carry a towel. A microfiber towel is just about the most useful piece of gear you can carry. They clean well and dry fast.
A microfiber towel can be used to clean off your helmet, wipe your windshield, dry a rainy seat, use for backup neck protection, and rolls up into a very small space for storage. You're sure to find even more uses in your travels and might consider carrying more than one.
